Independent surveys for buyers, owners and insurers, backed by practical experience of boat construction, maintenance and repair.

March & Co Marine provides independent yacht and small craft surveys throughout Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, London and the South Coast. Working with sailing yachts, motorboats, houseboats and traditional wooden vessels, we undertake pre-purchase, insurance, condition, damage and valuation surveys.

Combining professional marine surveying with extensive hands-on experience in boatbuilding, maintenance and restoration, we provide thorough inspections and clear, practical reporting. Whether you're buying a boat, arranging insurance or assessing its condition, our aim is to give you an informed understanding of the vessel and any issues that may require attention.

Why Choose March & Co Marine?

NOT JUST WHAT'S WRONG. WHY IT MATTERS.

Having spent much of my working life aboard, maintaining and repairing vessels, I understand boats from the inside out. From traditional wooden craft to modern yachts and motorboats, my hands-on experience has given me a practical understanding of how vessels are built, how they age and where problems are likely to develop. That experience shapes the way I survey, combining thorough inspection and professional judgement with clear, straightforward reporting. My aim is to provide honest, balanced assessments and practical recommendations grounded in the realities of boat ownership, maintenance and repair.

The Survey Process

From your initial enquiry through to the delivery of your survey report, we aim to make the process straightforward, transparent, and informative.

Initial discussion

We begin with a conversation about the vessel, your requirements, and the purpose of the survey. This allows us to understand your needs and recommend the most appropriate type of inspection.

Survey Arranged & Inspection Completed

The vessel will be inspected at the agreed location and time. A thorough examination is carried out using industry-standard surveying practices, with findings carefully documented throughout the inspection process.

Quotation Provided

Following our initial discussion, a clear and transparent quotation will be issued outlining the scope of the survey, associated fees, and any additional requirements. Once accepted, a suitable date can be arranged.

Written Report & Follow-Up Discussion

A comprehensive written report is provided detailing the vessel's condition, observations, and recommendations. We are then available to discuss the findings, answer any questions, and help you understand any significant issues identified during the survey.
