Yacht & Marine Surveys Boatbuilding & Restoration

  • A thorough and independent assessment of a vessel's condition before purchase, helping buyers identify defects, maintenance requirements and potential future costs.

  • Condition surveys provide a comprehensive assessment of a vessel's overall condition, structure and systems. Suitable for owners, insurers and prospective buyers seeking an independent report on maintenance requirements, defects and general seaworthiness.

  • Insurance surveys provide an independent assessment of a vessel's condition, seaworthiness and maintenance standards. Commonly required for new policies and renewals, they help insurers evaluate risk while highlighting any significant defects or recommendations.

  • Damage surveys assess the extent and cause of damage following collision, grounding, impact, fire or severe weather. Detailed findings and repair recommendations help owners, insurers and repairers understand the work required to restore the vessel.

  • Valuation surveys establish the fair market value of a vessel based on its condition, specification, maintenance history and current market trends. Suitable for sale, finance, probate, insurance and other situations requiring an independent valuation.

  • Wooden boat surveys provide a detailed assessment of traditional timber vessels, classic yachts and heritage craft. Drawing on practical boatbuilding experience, inspections focus on timber condition, structural integrity, repairs and long-term maintenance requirements.

  • Inland waterway surveys assess the condition of narrowboats, barges and other inland craft. Particular attention is given to hull condition, corrosion, structural integrity and onboard systems, helping owners, buyers and insurers make informed decisions.

Independent yacht and small craft marine surveys informed by years of practical boatbuilding, restoration and marine industry experience.

Why Boatbuilding Experience Matters in a Yacht Survey

March & Co Marine Ltd provides independent marine surveys for sailing yachts, motorboats, houseboats and liveaboard craft across East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Lincolnshire and London.

Led by Lyndon March, Affiliate Member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association, we specialise in pre-purchase, insurance, condition and valuation surveys for GRP, steel, aluminium and traditionally built wooden vessels.

  • Boat restoration services for classic, heritage and modern vessels. Projects range from sympathetic repairs and structural restoration to complete rebuilds, helping preserve a vessel's condition, functionality and historical character.

  • Traditional boatbuilding services for wooden and classic craft, combining established techniques with practical craftsmanship. From structural timber repairs to new components, work is carried out with careful attention to the vessel's character and long-term durability.

  • Professional finishing works including varnishing, painting, coatings, brightwork restoration and cosmetic detailing. High-quality finishing not only enhances appearance but also provides essential protection, helping preserve the vessel's condition and value for years to come.

  • Refit and modernisation projects improve the safety, functionality and comfort of a vessel. Work may include structural alterations, equipment upgrades, interior refurbishment and practical improvements tailored to the owner's requirements.

  • Vessel husbandry services help owners maintain their craft in a safe, presentable and serviceable condition. From routine inspections and maintenance planning to seasonal preparation and ongoing care, vessel husbandry supports long-term reliability and protects investment.

  • Professional structural repairs for wooden, and composite craft, addressing damage, deterioration and wear. Repairs are undertaken using appropriate materials and methods to restore strength, integrity and confidence in the vessel.

  • Specialist services for heritage vessels, classic yachts and traditional craft. Combining surveying, restoration and boatbuilding experience, work is carried out with an understanding of historic construction methods and sympathetic preservation principles.

“Lyndon provided excellent service and was super helpful through the whole process of the survey. As someone who is a novice with narrow boats, Lyndon provided a lot of support and answered any and a lot of questions I had. Thanks again!”
