Mr March

Lyndon March is a marine surveyor with over twenty years’ professional experience working on and around boats across the Thames Estuary, East Coast, and South East of England, including Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Kent, and London. For more than a decade, he has worked exclusively within the marine industry, supported by a lifetime of practical experience that began at a young age.

Lyndon began his career within the Thames Sailing Barge fleet, operating extensively throughout the River Thames, Medway, and East Coast ports. Starting as casual crew at the age of eleven, he progressed through the roles of crew member, first mate, and skipper, before ultimately serving as Skipper and Operations Manager. This period provided a robust foundation in seamanship, vessel operation, safety management, and commercial vessel compliance, with regular seasons exceeding one hundred days at sea.

Winter refit and maintenance periods involved detailed inspection, maintenance, and repair of wooden hull structures, decks, rigging, coatings, and machinery systems. This hands-on work developed a strong understanding of traditional construction methods, defect identification, material degradation, and repair techniques—skills directly applicable to condition surveys, pre-purchase surveys, and refit assessments of both traditional and modern craft.

In 2020, Lyndon broadened his professional experience by joining a traditional boatyard specialising in wooden yachts and classic vessels, serving as a Yacht Finisher. His role included high-level marine finishing, brightwork restoration, structural boatbuilding tasks, and operation of the yard’s workboat. He was closely involved in the rebuild and completion of several major restoration projects, expanding his surveying knowledge from commercial and working craft into classic yachts and traditional pleasure vessels.

In 2021, Lyndon established March & Co Marine, providing marine surveys, yacht and small craft surveys, consultancy, project management, and technical support throughout Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Kent, London, and the wider East Coast. His work covers pre-purchase surveys, condition and insurance surveys, refit and restoration assessments, and advisory services for owners, buyers, and insurers.

Lyndon’s surveying approach combines practical, hands-on experience with a methodical and analytical inspection process, delivering clear, independent, and evidence-based reports. He regularly undertakes surveys on historic vessels, classic yachts, and modern craft across the rivers, estuaries, and coastal waters of the South East and East of England.
